How to Plant Allium Bulbs
For a beautiful display of blue, purple, pink or white flowers resembling fireworks in your garden, choose a sheltered, sunny, open location in your garden, which is well drained and has not been recently manured. You can use any multi-purpose compost to plant alliums in. Most alliums do well in pots, as long as the containers are deep enough and the bulbs are repotted every autumn.
When to Plant Allium Bulbs
Plant your allium bulbs during early autumn at approximately 4 times the depth of the diameter of the bulbs. If your soil is low quality, you can apply a balanced fertiliser in the spring. Lift and replant overcrowded clumps after the plants die down. The bulbs should be fine to stay in the ground over winter in the ground but if grown in pots they can be frost sensitive, so protect them appropriately.
