Large exhibition quality onions with well coloured yellow/brown skin.
Sowing Instructions
Sow indoors, January to February. Outdoors, March to April.
Indoors, In trays of seed compost. Sow thinly, cover with 1.5cm (0.5") of compost. Firm gently and keep moist. Cover with glass, polythene or propagator lid. Keep at approx 10-15 degrees C (50-60 degrees F). Seedlings appear after 14-21 days.
Outdoors, in a prepared seed bed. Sow thinly in rows 30cm (12") apart. Cover with 1.5cm (0.5") of fine soil. Firm gently and keep moist.
Care Instructions
Indoors, remove cover when seedlings appear. When large enough transplant 5cm (2") apart in trays. Stand outside for a few days late May (avoid frosts). Transplant 23cm (9") apart in growing position. Keep moist and weed free.
Outdoors, When large enough thin to 5cm (2") apart. Later thin to 15cm (6") (23cm (9") for really big onions) use thinnings for salads or transplanting. Keep moist and weed free.
Harvesting Instructions
August to September, store in a cool dry area. When tops turn yellow, bend them over to assist ripening.
