A very popular basil with large sweet leaves. Used in a huge range of mediterranean dishes. An essential for the windowsill.
Sowing Instructions
Sow indoors, March to April, or all year round for pots indoors. Outdoors, May to June.
Indoors, in pots or trays of moist compost. Sow thinly, cover lightly with compost. Firm gently, cover with glass, polythene or propagator lid. Keep at 15-20 degrees C (60-68 degrees F) and keep moist.
Outdoors, in the growing position. Sow thinly, cover with fine soil.
Care Instructions
Indoors, remove cover when seedlings appear. Thin plants to further pots or trays if necessary. To grow outdoors, stand outdoors for a few days late May (avoid frosts). Then transplant 25cm (10") apart in final position. To grow indoors, transplant to 15cm (6") pots of compost, place in a light airy location.
Outdoors, when large enough, thin to 25cm (10") apart.
Harvesting Instructions
Pick the leaves as required (outdoor plants from June onwards). Indoor plants all year round. In cooking, add the leaves at the last minute to retain the flavour.
