The leaves of this popular herb are delicious chopped in curries and chutneys or used whole in salads and as a garnish.
Sowing Instructions
Sow indoors, March to April, or all year round for pots indoors. Outdoors, April to June.
Indoors, in pots or trays of moist compost. Sow thinly, cover lightly with compost. Firm gently, cover with glass, polythene or propagator lid. Keep at 15-20 degrees C (60-68 degrees F) and keep moist.
Outdoors, in the growing position. Sow thinly, cover lightly with fine soil.
Care Instructions
Indoors, remove cover when seedlings appear. Thin plants to further pots or trays if necessary. To grow outdoors, stand outside for a few days late May (avoid frosts). Then transplant 20cm (8") apart in final position. To grow indoors, transplant to 15cm (6") pots of compost, place in a light airy location.
Outdoors, when large enough thin to 20cm (8") apart.
Harvesting Instructions
Pick the leaves as required (outdoor plants fron June onwards), indoor plants all year round. Pick a few leaves from several different plants each time. They will then regrow more quickly.
