One of the most successful exhibition varieties, with long smooth shapely pods that can grow up to 50cm/20in long.
Sowing Instructions
Sow indoors, April. Outdoors, May to early July.
Indoors, in pots of moist compost. Sow one or two per pot, cover with 2.5cm (1") of fine compost and cover with glass or polythene. Firm gently and keep moist. Keep at approx 15 degrees C (60 degrees F). Seedlings appear 7-10 days.
Outdoors, in a prepared seed bed, delay sowing if soil is cold or waterlogged. Sow two seeds together with 12cm (5") between positions in rows 45cm (18") apart, cover with 5cm (2") of fine soil. Firm gently and keep moist.
Care Instructions
Indoors, remove cover when seedlings appear, stand outside for a few days late May (avoid frosts). Transplant 25cm (10") apart in rows 45cm (18") apart.
Outdoors, when large enough thin to 25cm (10") apart. Train up poles or netting and keep moist and weed free.
Harvesting Instructions
July to October. Pick regularly to encourage further cropping. In hot weather mist with tepid water in the evening to help the pods set.
