Very hardy and reliable, especially in colder regions. Thick stemmed, broad flags.

Sowing Instructions

Sow indoors, January to February. Outdoors, March to April.
Indoors, in trays of seed compost. Sow thinly, cover with 1.5cm of compost. Firm gently and keep moist. Cover try with glass, polythene or propagator lid. Keep at approx 15 degrees C (60 degrees F). Seedlings appear in 14-21 days.
Outdoors, in a prepared seed bed. Sow thinly in rows 20cm 8 inches apart. Cover with 1.5cm of fine soil. Firm gently and keep moist.

Care Instructions

Indoors, remove cover when seedlings appear. When large enough transplant 5cm apart in trays. Stand outside for a few days late May (avoid frosts). When 12cm tall, transplant into holes 15cm apart with 30cm between rows.
Outdoors, when 12cm tall, transplant to growing position into holes 15cm apart with 30cm between rows, water, but do not firm plants in.

Harvesting Instructions

November to March. Earth up the stems in autumn fo extra whiteness.
