Product Information
Well known and reliable variety for over 100 years. Compact habit, producing firm, well-flavoured, pointed, tender hearts. Use also for 'spring greens' when sown or planted more closely. Suitable also for spring sowing for summer and autumn cutting.
Sowing Instructions
Sow July to August for overwintering. Sow seed thinly, 1cm deep in drills 23cm apart in soil raked to a fine tilth and which contains plenty of sowing mix or manure. It may also be beneficial to rake in 100g/sq m of a balanced fertiliser.
Growing Instructions
 | Transplant when seedlings are large enough to handle, spacing by 30-38cm each way or at 10cm apart for 'spring greens'. Water regularly, especially in dry periods. Hoe between plants as required. Harvest February as greens or April-May as hearted cabbage. Can also be sown during spring for summer harvesting. To avoid danger of clubroot, grow your brassicas (cabbages, sprouts, cauliflowers, etc) on a different site each year. |
Crop
February to May.
Serving Suggestion
Delicious steamed and sprinkled with black pepper; add any left over to 'bubble and squeek'.
