The sleekly contoured new Hozelock Trinamic bio-filters are far removed from the old-fashioned cistern tank design of traditional box filters. But the key features lie within, where the first of three filtration processes sees the pond water entering the bio-module at high velocity via oxygenating venturi and filtering through a moving bed of Kaldnes K3 plastic biomedia.

The patented K3 design, which is neutrally buoyant in water, has a very high surface area and promotes the growth of bacteria on the inside and outside of its ‘wheel’ design. The unique moving K3 bed promotes natural selection of ultra-efficient Nitrosomonas bacteria as only the strongest, fastest-acting micro-organisms survive the constant media collisions. This type of bacteria, which breaks lethal ammonia down into nitrite, thrives in an oxygenated dynamic environment.

i have run the trimamic filter for more than a year aand while i agree about the ventri being usless (i have an air stone in mine)the rest of the filter works fine once the water has been cleaned.It has foams on second stage and they get dirty quickly to start with but after a while this gives you good water clarity.my pond is only 600 gallons wouldnt fancy it on its rated size which i think was 3000 gal!!!

I have had this filter for two years now and the water entering the filter does not make the media spin around as suggested. The venturi are a waste of time as they dont work and dont produce any oxygen for the media you are better adding an airstone from an air pump .

Further to my origional review, hozelock did contact me, and with there help all my problems were resolved and i am now very happy with my system. I feel its only right and fair that as i was quick enough to slate the product, i should also address the prompt action of hozelock (carl in particular) to resolving any issues i had and i can now say i am really pleased with it. and would not hesitate in recommending it to others.

I too have had the same problem as Mick Summers. The filters get blocked and water floods out of the top of the box draining the pond. I now have to clean it once a week to prevent my pond from emptying. If you love your fish and dont want to find them dead one day dont bother with this. Its really expensive plastic.

i recently returned home from work to find the water level in my pond down 14 inches, the filters got blocked and it let the water flood out of the top on the filter box, i believe this model should be fitted with an over flow system which would direct the water back into the pond if anything became blocked. if i had been on holiday it could have emptied my pond, i have emailed hozelock and they have not responded, therefore i think this filter system is a waste of money and could be dangerous to your fish
