Product Description

This is for 5 of our top quality, certified and fully plant pass-ported, potted Purple Beech (Fagus Sylvatica 'Atropunicea') hedging plants or trees - 2ft tall.

You can plant potted plants all year round - just keep them well watered! Purple Beech is one of the best choices for a hedge. It grows very densely, especially if trimmed regularly. The leaves come out a vibrant Purple in the Spring. The bonus is that they stay on in the winter as brown bronze or copper coloured leaves giving screening and protection all year round and are often referred to as semi evergreen. They are much more wildlife friendly than pure evergreen hedges and you will have birds nesting in them during the Summer months. They also grow into a tree up to about 25m tall if left to their own devices and make excellent shade for a garden.

Beech will grow in most soil types and in full sun or partial shade which is one of the reasons why they are so popular - if you have very damp and a lot of clay in the soil, then Hornbeam, which is very similar, is a better option! For best results use Rootgrow when planting - it can increase the rate of growth by up to 50% - just contact us if you're not sure how much you need! Plant in a single or staggered row at the rate of 4-5 per metre - just order the number of packs you need for the hedge length and height you are after! If you are not sure which size to go for or how many you need please just contact us anytime for friendly advice on designing and planting a hedge.

Many apologies but due to a change in plant health law following Brexit we are currently unable to ship to Northern Ireland. We are working on this and hope to find a solution soon!
