A 1900's Classic, Superb for Chips

Product Information

Some 100 years old but still an acclaimed First Early Potato. They are an oval white skinned potato with pale lemon flesh. They are one of the few good all-rounders, and have a superb flavour and texture that makes great mash, chips and are even great in salads.

Not a heavy cropper but has a good shape and a pleasant taste. When boiling,if cut into approximately large walnut sized pieces,do not boil for more than 8/9 minutes. Watch and test carefully 7+ minutes because they do suddenly break up. If boiling as small whole potatoes then the outsides do part from the inner core, unless carefully watched. Despite this difficulty I still grow them for their taste.

Definately not a salad potato. When boiled even slowly fall apart and very floury. I have not tried this variety before and will not in the future. Medium sized clean potatoes shame really

Growing Instructions

1. To sprout seed potatoes, place in a light cool area. Protect from frost.
2. Planting can take place as soon as the risk of frost has passed in your area, during spring, March - May. Plant 4.5 in deep in shallow ridges. seed should be 8 - 9 in apart in the row with 2 ft between each row.
3. Earth the plants up when they are 8 in tall. This encourages a higher yield of potatoes.
4. Watering your plants well will improve crop yield and discourage scab from forming.

Harvesting
First Earlies : June - july
Second Earlies : July - Sept
