Product Information
An heirloom 'Dutch' variety of loosely hearted pointed savoy. It is thought to date to the middle of the 19th century and was grown in the area of Bloemendal which was a major vegetable growing area for the markets of Haarlem and Amsterdam. The thin, light coloured leaves have a fantastic flavour and texture and it has now gained renewed popularity in top class Dutch restaurants as an epicurean vegetable.
Sowing Instructions
Sow outdoors, March to July. Thinly in a seed bed, 1.5cm (0.5") deep directly into finely prepared soil which has already been watered. Seedlings usually appear in 14-21 days. Water well until plants are established. Transplant 60cm (2ft) apart when plants are about 10cm (4") tall. Allow 60cm (2ft) between rows. Plant firmly and water well.
Sow indoors, March to May. 0.5cm (0.25") deep, in a tray of compost. Water well and keep in a cold frame or unheated greenhouse. Keep moist. Transplant 5cm (2") apart to other trays when large enough to handle. Gradually accustom young plants to outside conditions before planting out.
