Product Information
The cocozelle has a dark green skin which produces pronounced lighter stripes along its length. The heirloom variety is said to have an excellent 'old fashioned' flavour although that could be difficult to prove we say that the taste is very good and the flesh firm. It can be harvested up to 20cm (8in) long.
Sowing Instructions
Sow indoors, March to May. For surest results, 1.5cm (0.5") deep, on edge, in small pots of compost. Water well and place in a warm position. A temperature of 15-20 degrees C (60-68 degrees F) is ideal. Keep moist. Seedlings usually appear in 7-14 days. Gradually accustom plants to outside conditions (avoid frosts), before planting out 60cm (2ft) apart, when frosts are over.
Sow outdoors, April to May. For ease, where they are to crop, 1.5cm (0.5") deep directly into finely prepared soil which has already been watered. Allow 60cm (2ft) between sowing positions. Sow 2 seeds on edge per position. Early sowings benefit from cloche protection. Thin to leave the stronger plant. Water well until plants are established.
