It is probably not surprising that the 'eggplant' can be found in numerous shapes, sizes and colours, as throughout history it has spread across the globe and must now be one of the most widely grown vegetables. This mix is a 'potluck' from long, thin to tiny round red and green Asian varieties to large round white or purple Mediterranean types.
Sowing Instructions
Sow indoors, January to April. A warm kitchen windowsill is all you need to for starting these seeds. Sow 0.5cm (0.25") deep, thinly in a tray or pots of compost. Water well and place in a warm position. A temperature of 15-20 degrees C (60-68 degrees F) is ideal. Keep moist. Seedlings usually appear in 7-21 days. Transplant to individual pots when large enough to handle. Grow on in cooler, but not cold conditions. Plant out to large pots, growing bags or greenhouse border. Provide support with canes if necessary.
