Product Information
A favorite vegetable in Italy, it is very quick to grow. Generally the whole plant is harvested and leaves, stems and flower buds are all eaten. The small flower buds can be picked and cooked separately but you do need a lot of them! It can be sown and harvested successionally for many months. It has quite a strong, pungent 'brassica' flavour, perhaps as it is not actually a broccoli hence its many other names such as rapini, rappone, rabe and turnip broccoli.
Sowing Instructions
Sow outdoors, February to September. Thinly where they are to to crop, 1.5cm (0.5") deep directly into finely prepared soil which has already been watered. Allow 30cm (12") between rows. Early and late sowings benefit from cloche protection. Seedlings usually appear in 7-14 days. Thin out to 25cm (10") apart, transplant thinnings if required. water well until plants are established. Regular sowings made every 2 to 3 weeks will ensure a continuous supply. Plants mature faster in warmer weather.
