| There's only one lighting chimney - and this is it ! I would add that I never, ever use fire lighters in it - I wouldn't use a fire lighter as a spice or marinade or burger filler or to flavour my coals. Paper or kindling wood - be kind to your neighbours. |

| Great item for getting the coals evenly hot & ready to use. Not used charcoal bbq's much before, but using this made the process much easier. |

| I was somewhat sceptical about this gadget but it's not hugely expensive and I liked the idea of using old newspaper to light the charcoal rather than chemicals. My first few attempts failed miserably and I resorted to firelighters but I persevered and discovered the knack is down to how tightly you pack in the newspaper and it's essential in my humble opinion to ensure there is a half inch gap in the centre of the paper to allow the flames to funnel up into the charcoal. On the paper side, rolled up balls of complete sheets of newspaper packed reasonably tightly around the outside edge works well or you can roll the paper into long sausages depending on you mood. I fill the chimney to the top and it takes about 30 mins to get 80% of the charcoal glowing red at which point I turn it upside down, pop the lid on the BBQ and let it settle for another 15-20 mins and away you go.
Lumpwood or briquettes? Lumpwood lights easily, burns very hot (too hot I think) and doesn't last long. Briquettes burn much more slowly, last longer and are don't flare up half as much so I think briquettes are the way to go. But they require extra perfection of the lighting technique as they seem partly fire retardant.

| The best thing ever made for a charcoal barbeque. Cant praise it enough. It is literally fill in, stick in the match, forget about for a 30 min and all the coals are ready. No messing with blowing, fluids, smoke, fanning a piece of cardboard for an hours etc. Just that, may be a couple of tablets for sure, one match and refill your glasses while enjoying the conversation in peace. Coals will be on time and in perfect condition. No embarrassment, red faces, excuses, delays etc. |
