Wooden garden furniture is seeing a bit of a renaissance, with many leading brands introducing new wooden lines in 2025, including Kettler. In this post, we look at why there is this resurgence in wood, and the faux wood alternatives.
Benefits of wooden garden furniture

Over the last few years, garden furniture made with grey aluminium frames or natural toned weave have dominated garden furniture formats. In 2025, though, natural wooden furniture is becoming more popular, with new wooden framed garden lounge and dining sets appearing, alongside wooden benches. Kettler is leading the trend, introducing new wooden lines such as Freeport, Naples and Durban ranges, alongside existing wooden ranges, Fiji and Cora.
The leading benefit of wooden garden furniture is, undoubtedly, its attractive appearance, providing a traditional look consumers love. With its attractive brown colourway and intricate grain detail, wood has a look that nearly everyone loves. Wooden furniture is also strong and hard-wearing, and can be a key asset to your garden for many years, if kept well maintained. It is getting easier to look after. Whereas in the past, wood would be hard to maintain without the colour fading, or the wood itself splitting, now there are many treatments available to help maintain its original appearance, involving just one or two treatments a year to be affective.
Types of wood

Leading the wood trend for 2025 are acacia and teak woods, which are valued for their strength, eye-catching grain and attractive colour. Both Naples and Durban ranges are made with teak, while the Freeport and Cora come in acacia wood. Meanwhile, the Fiji range comes in eucalyptus, offering another type of wood to consider.
Sustainability
An important consideration for many consumers is the sustainability of their purchases. With this in mind, the new wooden garden furniture coming to market is often made using wood from sustainable forests. Kettler’s wooden ranges, for example, are FSC assured.
Wooden frames with weave and rope elements

Kettler has been creative with its new wooden furniture offerings, with frames that have weave backs or rope detailing adding to the aesthetic. The Freeport range features grey weave seats backs, while the Naples has beige toned rope seat backs. The Durban, meanwhile, has an entirely weave seating frame, complemented with wooden legs and coffee table, for a unique weave look.
Faux wood

For those consumers who want the look of wood without the maintenance, the ever popular Winawood has an extensive line of plastic based faux wood garden furniture, in a variety of colours and patterns. Its benches and accessories are made from a synthetic polymer that is heavier than wood, weather proof and will not warp or split. Winawood will also not need staining like traditional wooden furniture products, saving on maintenance.
Folie

Finally, leading garden furniture brand, Hartman, has introduced its own nod to the wood trend with folie patio sets and shading. The Eden, Portico and Asher ranges have folie detailing, from table tops, seating legs and arm rests. While, Monza, Seychelles and Aegean shading comes with folie effect poles, for a contemporary look.
Folie has a wood grain appearance but is in fact made from aluminium; a foil overlay is heat treated on to powder coated aluminium, to give a durable, low maintenance finish. It is scratch resistant, heat resistant and easy to clean, providing a stunning low maintenance alternative to wood that is perfect for everyday use.
