Starting a Micro-Irrigation System

Watering your garden can be a chore, but with a micro-irrigation system, you can ensure your garden is kept well watered with minimum effort. In this post we will show you the simple steps you can follow to help you along in starting a micro-irrigation system.
Use a Kit
Helping you on your way with micro-irrigation are some great starter kits from Hozelock. For example, the Hozelock 15 Pot Micro Drip Watering Kit, is an easy to fit micro drip watering kit which will water up to 15 pots or containers. It is easy to expand by adding more kits or components as and when needed. This kit is also compatible with other Hozelock micro components, so you can also add to an existing system.
Kit Contains
- Pressure regulator
- 15m of 4mm micro tubing
- 15x Micro Staked Adjustable Universal Drippers
- 14x T Pieces
Operating the Kit
The Hozelock 15 Pot Micro Drip Watering Kit is straight-forward to use, so you will be up and running in no time.
- Connect the pressure regulator (reducer) to your tap and attach to hose regulator
- Add on Timer if required
- Run hose to near plants that need watering
- Cut hose and attach t-pieces
- Insert dripper into end of hose
- Repeat for different end hoses
- Adjust water flow
Add a Timer
Adding a Timer, will automate the watering process so that it comes on at set intervals. Activate at sunrise, sunset, or both, as these are the optimum times for watering plants and lawns. You can also choose the duration of time that you would like the water to be released, from just a minute, to much longer.
Timers vary from simple wind-up varieties, to battery operated ones, some of which have digital displays, showing multiple watering periods you can select.
Expand System
Hozelock’s micro-irrigation systems are fully compatible with its Easy-drip range. You can easily expand it by adding on Easy Drip Watering Systems, from drippers, connectors, t-pieces, elbows, stakes and plugs.
Easy-Drip Maintenance
To maintain your system, flush system to keep clean. To flush, unscrew and remove dripper heads and turn off water.
During winter, turn off the tap, remove pressure reducer and store away from frost. Unscrew and remove dripper heads for cleaning.
Run Limits
For best performance, no run should be longer than 15m, and no run should have more than 15 drippers.
