Product Description
This is for 5 of our top quality, certified and fully plant pass-ported, 5ft tall now Hornbeam Potted (Carpinus Betulus) hedging plants or trees.
You can plant potted plants all year round - just keep them well watered! Hornbeam is one of the best choices for a hedge. It grows very densely, especially if trimmed regularly. The leaves come out a vibrant green and turn a brilliant gold in the autumn. The bonus is that they stay on in the winter as brown bronze or copper coloured leaves giving some screening and protection all year round and are often referred to as semi evergreen.
They are very similar to Green Beech but with a shade lighter more vibrant green leaf and catkins in the Spring if you don't trim them! They are very tolerant plants and easy to grow - can be used in damp soil and clay. They are much more wildlife friendly than pure evergreen hedges and you will have birds nesting in them during the summer months. If you don't trim them in the Spring they will form Hornbeam seeds in the Autumn. They also grow into a medium sized tree up to about 10m if left to their own devices and make excellent shade for a garden.
Hornbeam will grow in most soil types and in full sun or partial shade, which is one of the reasons why they are so popular. For best results use Rootgrow when planting - it can increase the rate of growth by up to 50% - just contact us if you're not sure how much you need!
Plant in a single or staggered row at the rate of 3-4 per metre - just order the number of packs you need for the hedge length you are after! If you are not sure which size to go for or how many you need please just contact us anytime for friendly advice on designing and planting a hedge. Orders for 10 plants or more will be delivered on a pallet so we will call you to make arrangements etc - the trucks will have a tail-lift so easy to drop off!
