Product Description
This species is also known as Scandinavian Laurel, where it was first grown, so is very hardy and also tolerates full shade. These plants are also quite happy in full sun and anything in-between, so is a really versatile plant for all parts of a garden.
Laurels are evergreen, giving you year-round privacy and are great for reducing noise with large dense rich shiny green coloured leaves. If you don't prune them before the flowers appear in early Spring, they form lovely delicate creamy white flowers and black berries in the Autumn.
Laurels will grow up to 60cm per year in full or partial sun, so will quickly make a tall hedge. They can grow up to 10m tall but are happy being trimmed from 1m upwards. We recommend you trim once a year in the Autumn to keep the foliage dense. You can also trim in early Spring if you want to avoid the flowers and berries.
They will grow in most soil types, although we don't recommend for coastal areas as they don't like salt in the air. For best results plant with Rootgrow gel. It increases the growth rate by up to 50% and really helps the plants establish.
Keep them well watered especially in the Spring and Summer in the first year of planting.
